Noella Upitis was born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada and has received degrees from the Ontario College of Art and Design, the University of Guelph and York University. Upitis pursues dual careers in education and mixed media painting.

Her landscapes draw upon the Canadian winter and the sculptural form of trees in their dormant state. Trees become invitational through their presence in an open space. Upitis’ paintings draw upon observations at a distance, providing a wider perspective for the viewer.

In contrast, abstraction turns the eye inward pursuing internal landscapes. Painting here tends to investigate the exchange between the intellect and emotions in addition to contrasting reality and fictional narratives. These paintings are deeply personal in nature and Upitis employs a vibrancy of colour.

Currently, Upitis shows in Southern Ontario, participating in group shows at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition, Williams Mill Art Gallery, Alton Mills Gallery, Art in the Street Guelph and Cabbage Town Art and Sale. She was a longstanding member (2012-2018) of the Guelph Studio Tour and has been juried into Art in the Park Stratford this year. Her work hangs in private collections around the world from the Wenjiang Province, China to Miami, Florida.
